Bamboo, Wood & Thatch Fire Retardant - 5 Gallons

Fire retardant can be used with both interior and exterior wood and thatch products. It dries to a clear, satin finish in approximately four hours and is paint-like in appearance. Fire retardant X-238 is a white, opaque, water-based coating. It boasts flexible, yet durable properties that enable it to breathe and resist dust abrasion.

Application Rate

• Wood Shake and Shingle: 100 ft2 (1 square) per gallon
• Palm Thatch: 100 ft2 per gallon (approximately)
• Flatwood Surfaces: 150 ft2 per gallon

Testing

Fire retardant X-238 was tested by both U.S. Testing Company and DST Laboratories. It received a flame spread classification of 40, and a flame spread rating of Class A and Class B under ASTM E-84 standards by U.S. Testing Company. DST Laboratories tested exposure to UV rays and proved that it would survive over two years of exterior weathering while still boasting superior fire resistance a minimum of 96% of the time.

Application

Fire Retardant X-238 should be mixed thoroughly prior to application. Surfaces receiving treatment should be cleansed, dry and free of dirt, dust and oils before application. Fire Retardant X-238 can be applied by dipping, rolling or spraying. If spraying, then we recommend a heavy-duty sprayer with a 315 flat contractors tip and a 6-inch fan.
